The average pig weighs 400-700 pounds live!

How is the pork raised?
We buy weaned pigletts and raise them naurally out on grass the rest of their happy lives. It's so fun to see pigs munching on the grass in the sun. They are hand butchered at 400-700 pounds (usually 6-8 months). The pork is available in cuts or in bulk, all year long. For a list of cuts usually available at Grassfields, you can go here.
How is it processed?
Pork is available in a whole or a half, (or cuts at the farm). A whole pig runs 400 - 500 pounds, live. So, 450 pounds times 55% is 280 pounds hanging weight. This times 70% is about 170 pounds of meat. The pork is sent to Devries Meats where it is hand butchered and processed according to your desires. You only pay Grassfields LLC $2 per pound of hanging weight and processing, then pick up your meat at the processor. Directions to DeVries Meats.
