This is one flock of laying hens which follows the cows. Talk about a great symbiotic relationship! |

| The roosters in Jay's flocks are mainly for protection against the predators we have around: Skunks, Opossoms, Racoons, Coyotes, Red Tailed Hawks, and Bald Eagles. |

How are these animals raised?
The grass the poultry eat is Certified Organic. The meat chickens and turkeys are raised in movable pens of varying sizes which are moved to new grass about once a week or when otherwise needed. The laying hens lay their eggs in 2 semi-permenant buildings, but are totally free range. The eggs are hand gathered, hand washed, and hand packed once a day. Water and shelter are always available; our chickens, eggs, and turkeys are free of hormones, steroids, and antibiotics; and their mash is bought from our local feed mill. |

Availability: Poultry comes whole, but we also have some chicken cuts.
Turkeys are available in the late fall to Thanksgiving. They are raised in only one batch, so call during the Spring or Summer to reserve your delicious, juicy Thanksgiving or Christmas turkey! Jay's scrumptious turkeys are really appreciated by his customers! Last year they averaged 18 pounds!
Chickens are available mid-summer through Christmas, generally. They are raised in one batch and are generally available all year. These broilers are excellent for Sunday dinner or midnight left-over snacks!
Stewing hens are available here and there (call for availability). These tastey birds are excellent for chicken stock, soups, and anything in which you'd like to have great, slow-cooked, scrumptious chicken taste.
Eggs are available all year in large (a grocery store's jumbo size) and jumbo (super-size). |

One of our customers sent us a picture of these 5 out of a single dozen eggs! |

Jay gathers as many as 45 dozen eggs a day from his 4 groups of laying chickens. He recently aquired an old school bus which he drives around the fields behind or with the cows as an eggmobile! |

A triple yolker! For nutritional information on eggs from pastured (free-range) chickens, see below.

The turkeys will be available in the Fall. |

The chickens live near the cows in a wonderfully symbiotic relationship: the chickens clean up the bugs and grubs and the cows are less bothered by insects. |
